Something About Me

Welcome to Kathy’s Musings.

For this latest series of blog posts on hospice care (starting March 4, 2018), I want you to know that I am a care manager for elderly clients; I am NOT a nurse or health professional. I will not give medical advice; PLEASE GO TO THE DOCTOR for that! That being said, in my job and in my personal life, I have worked with medical professionals and hospice organizations for a number of people. It is important to remember that while the vast majority of health care professionals provide care for our loved ones with the very best of intentions, people are fallible. Of course, we want the best care for those we love, and especially during the final stages of life. While I deeply believe that hospice and medical caregivers are hard-working, well-trained, generous and caring people, sometimes, despite best efforts, things fall through the cracks. Unfortunately, such is life. Nobody’s perfect. A loved one or care manager who knows the patient well can advocate successfully at times when the system is moving a bit too slowly. There are little things that are good to know if you or someone you love is entering hospice care. I will discuss these in my posts on this site.

And if you are interested, I invite you to stroll through my other postings, which are about humor and life (and death) and family and current events and things that may seem ridiculously minor, like my ancient counter-top radio, but end up having significance in the greater scheme of things. It’s in the details, you know?

Not only is writing fun, it helps me draw conclusions about the many facets of life so it’s easier to make sense of it all. My tag line “Everything is temporary!” references a line from one of my all-time favorite films, Moonstruck (1987) starring Cher and Nicolas Cage, Danny Aiello, Vincent Gardenia and Olympia Dukakis.

Here it is, from MOONSTRUCK: (Loretta , talking to her father, has just announced her engagement)

Cosmo Castorini: It looks stupid. It’s a pinky ring. It’s a man’s ring!

Loretta Castorini: It’s temporary!

Cosmo Castorini: Everything is temporary! That don’t excuse nothin’!

Everything is temporary, except these posts, which I guess are online forever. So read on, and then go watch the movie.

  1. Hi Kathy – Our NCBC president forwarded your blog link to us. (We are no longer in the Ottawa area and have now moved to BC). Enjoyed reading about your Fiesta experience, especially since we were such a big part of it! Thanks for saying all those nice things about us.

Not sure if you are planning on returning to Albuquerque this year, but Dave and I will be there again. You (and your family and friends) are welcome to come crew for us. Despite the move, our e-mail address is the same – – let us know.

BTW, I also have a WordPress Blog called Chapter 4 – you can find it at – haven’t had a chance to write about balloons yet.

    • Hi Leslie, Thanks so much for your kind words! I am looking forward to reading your postings on today, and thank you also for the very kind invitation to crew again. We’ll let you know! You are most kind. I have looked at other web pages for your club members and have seen pictures of new balloons and sky diving. It’s opening up a whole new world for me, but I’m fairly certain I won’t be the one jumping out of an airplane! I’ll continue to enjoy that via watching online.
      Thank you again!
